Michael Kaplan reported on BIBCO developments (see also BIBCO-at-Large report). New language has been added to the PCC policies about low contributors. The collection-level core standard has been submitted to the Policy Committee. A core for cartographic materials is under development. The BIBCO training manual is at the printers. The real-time upload of authority records has been considered by RLG but is not really in the pipeline for implementation.
Jean Hirons reported on CONSER developments (see also CC:DA report). Field 891 will be implemented by OCLC in June 2000 for 853/863 holdings data. Chapter 12 of AACR2 will be rewritten to cover all “continuing resources.”
Joan Schuitema reported on the Standards Committee, and then Stephen Hearn summarized the recommendations of the Cross Reference Task Group (cf. http://library.ucsd.edu/~linda/XRefrept.htm). The XRefTG discussed the role of references for both heading management and for search redirection. The report has been accepted by the Standards Committee. Comments are requested by 1 March 2000.
